Identity Wreckers…
There are internal and external thoughts, arguments, and strongholds that threaten who you are and your purpose on this earth! They are identity wreckers and they must be destroyed…
There are 4 main identity wreckers I want to share that threaten your very existence and personal and professional success.
Unrenewed mind
II Corinthians 4: 3-10 explains that “even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them”. There is a force that attacks your mind on a daily basis. Every day the god of this age, otherwise known as Satan’s demons utilizing the craftiness and duplicitous rhetoric of media, advertising, self-help, feel-good gurus, and the like, seeks you out to destroy your mind and essentially, your peace of mind. Whenever you choose to believe a lie about your self or others, every decision hinges upon that lie. In many case, you don’t even recognize it until you are broken and depleted. The One Who knows us inside and out, reminds us in the scriptures to be transformed, not conforming to this world’s ideas and ideals, but to intentionally renew our minds with His Word (See Romans 12:1-3). The Word is life and health to our whole person, spirit, soul, and body!
Pride
Colossians 2: 18- 19 reminds us to not “let [anyone] cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. In other words, do not allow anyone to manipulate your relationship with God by religious acts driven by pride or false humility. When pride rears its head, unchecked, destruction always follows (See Proverbs 16:17).
Insecurity
Everyone deals with insecurity at times in their lives. Lacking confidence and having self-doubt is part of the human experience, especially when experiences are new and waters are unchartered. For example, having a baby is the most amazing, yet scary experience in life that barely tops raising that same child into adulthood. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, a curveball is thrown, and many times, you just don’t know how to swing. What’s even more mind-boggling is that each child you have is so different! They have different strengths, different weaknesses, different likes, dislikes, and different responses to discipline, correction, and the wealth of wisdom you give them. Like raising children, life can be complex and full of surprises, so feelings of insecurity can often hinder you, threatening your success. This leads to the next one…
Fear:
Fear of failure; fear of trusting God; fear of trusting yourself or others, and even the fear of making a mistake will roll into your life like a tidal wave unless you confront it head on. Living with the “what if’s” of life is tormenting. " I John 4:18 says “there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. Fear will cripple you and cut off the success God destined you to have and experience. Yes, fear is natural, but if you are born again, you are a new creation. That makes you supernatural, a fear-destroyer, mountain-mover, child of God who has the mind of Christ, not the mind of a baby sapling afraid to grow and live.
When you succumb to these identity -wreckers, you take control away from the One Who has it all under control. It’s as if you say, “I’m right and God is wrong.” This attitude essentially leads to pride where you become a god to yourself. Now, you and I know that when we come to the end of ourselves, we need to God - we need the life-giver to breathe on us once again.
